I keep noticing people posting up Facebook groups marked "[person] lost their fone!!!".

They make me laugh. See, I keep backups of my phonebook :) So when my phone got zapped recently and had to be hard reset (it's a PDA as well), I just restored from backups. Even a basic mobile phone model can backup onto a sim card and then you can put all your numbers onto an old phone's memory just in case. Really, that easy.

So why don't people do it? Well, because the vast majority of our society missed the boat with technology. It's sad how much more technology could do for people if they were only willing/able to learn about it...

I had 7 hours of classes today (well, 6.5... I left halfway through psychology when I realised it was just a repeat of the admin lecture from last semester), and I'm am fucking tired. I think I managed to make my schedule halfway decent this semester, though... I start later on Tuesday, so I can sleep in after long Mondays, and I finish early enough on Wednesday to make Moetzet without hurrying. Oh joy.

Or, actually, I just have a sudden urge to watch Dogma again. I should organise a movie night so I can watch it- I get horridly bored watching movies on my own.

Now, this is amusing because having people around me doesn't actually improve the experience of watching the movie itself. What it does do, however, is surround me with friends; a positive state :) That is, the mere presence of others (or just one other) is enough to keep me interested in whatever we're doing at the time.

I had an interesting little revalation yesterday while talking to Maggie. I am, in fact, exactly where I wanted myself to be now three years ago.

That is, between then and now, I completed all the goals I had for myself in that time.
- I had a long-term relationship, which ended well (ending was not planned, but everything has a time)
- I got into precisely the university course I wanted
- I travelled the world, and have visited all the places at the top of to-see my list
- I'm able to get around in two languages other than English
- I've become more socially adept
- I've become able to manage my time effectively where necessary
- I'm more confident socially

All those and a few more.

Why am I writing this here, anyway? I know there's a few people who read it. So, I guess that's the release of knowing I recorded some of my surface thoughts and someone else is likely to read them. I don't tend to write for myself; if I wanted a private diary, it would be in an encrypted folder, not on livejournal.

Oh well. Life's a mystery... that's half the fun of it :D

Edit: Oops, I just realised I'd typed "was planned" instead of "wasn't planned". >_>

I took some time to read through all my old lj entries.

I have come to a simple conclusion: I was damn whiny as a 15 year old. I was also far less self-confident than I am now, but I knew that. My, how times and travel change a person ^_^ Well, not so much self-confidence... I never had an issue with that. It was more that I was certain there was nobody out there who actually liked me as a person, rather than just tolerating me.

I've gotten over that, and typically, I was quite incorrect at the time as well. I hope and pray I'm a more pleasant person to be around than I was at 15 :)

Huh.

Well, I forgot I even had an account. Well, that's not entirely true. I just kinda killed it with a hatchet and buried it in the back yard for a while.

Then I got bored this evening and thought, "why not go dig up my lj account and find out if anyone I know still uses one?"

... yeah, so I'm odd. Next question?

Eh, it seems that all I'm posting in LJ these days are quizzes. I guess I've decided that Counter-Strike: Source and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines are better uses of my time. And, of course, talking to people is always better =)

Well hey, that was one hell of a party.

Not the kind of big, crazy party that people tend to rave about. It was a nice, small party, about a dozen people, and all friends (except David, who got along with the group and apparently enjoyed himself ^_^). The best kind of party, although bigger ones are good for meeting new people. Nobody got smashed, although the alcohol was available and a few people (myself included) drank enough to get fairly tipsy. The house was nice, big, and well, a rich house :P that suited the occassion well.

That, and it was the first time since we started going out that Maggie didn't have to leave a party early. Meant I was never bored or lonely :)

Mic was such a natural to the goth look, it was amusing. Sam, of course, outdid us all, what with that being her normal weekend dress anyway. Liza followed with a close second. And I probably hit a clear last, what with not even being able to pull off black. I was dark green. Militaristic goth? xD

Also, I need to learn how to do my hair like that. That is, without Sam and Maggie around to mob me, because I won't so often have that luxury :P

Oh, you're going to love this, Maggie.

I have lice x_X

Fortunately, my parents (read, my mother) are more medically informed, and my hair isn't anywhere near as long as Maggie's was at the time. So I get it treated this afternoon, and no problems for erev purim on thursday.

But, yeah. So I was the most likely person to pick up the lice from Maggie, and I did x_X

Had a blood test, among other things, on monday.

I HATE NEEDLES :\

Apparently, among the valentine's day roses delivered at school on monday, four were for me. 'course, I didn't actually see them, not being at school that day. I know for a fact that at least one of them was a prank, and there's no reason to believe the others were anything else either. Lmao, though... four. Damn, I'm a popular guy to prank, apparently :/

In other news, another product of monday is that I'm going to be applying to type my exams at school from now on, including my HSC papers. w00t.

Oh, and a grand total of one person said 'happy valentine's day'. That's one more than last year, thanks Maggie! :P

Keep in mind that this only really covers the second half of 2004; The first half's all kinda blurred and fuzzy unless I focus on specific incidents.

1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Many things.
Shared drinks. Drank any kind of alcohol other than Shabbat wine. Did other things. Actually started going out in the evening. (All on the same night- w00t for Stan's 17th)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Resolutions? Scratch the plural, and we have a goal right there xD

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
o_O umm, no. One of my American 'net contacts is pregnant, does that count?

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nup. Happiness all 'round.

5. What countries did you visit?
I live here. b00yah.

6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
A job. A girlfriend? (keep dreaming, Avi :P)

7. What dates from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory?
I don't remember the actual date of the party, but Stan's 17th birthday.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Mm. Umm. Achievement?

9. What was your biggest failure?
Failure to get organised and actually do as well in my exams as I do in homework assignments.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Colds. Headaches. Too many headaches.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A large red travel mug, and a Creative Zen Touch 20GB. The travel mug's lid doesn't close properly anymore, but I use it at home as a mega-sized tea/coffee mug.

12. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Stuff. You can ask, but I probably won't answer :P

13. What song will always remind you of 2004?:
Slipknot - Duality. Because that's the song that got me into much heavier rock than I'd previously listened to.

14. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
Happier, I guess.
b) thinner or fatter?
Thinner, and taller. Or maybe fatter and taller. I don't tend to vary too much in the horizontal size department.
c) richer or poorer?
Poorer. Spending money, and no job :P

15. How will you be spending christmas?
Hehe. Christmas. Haha. Hahahahahahaha.

16. Did you fall in love in 2004?
Umm, no. Love's a heavy word for a fifteen-year-old.

17. What was the best book you read?
Mm, too many. Just finished with Storm Front, and I never remember authors. Cbf going to the dining room to check.

18. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Brand New, Sugarcult, and Thrice - thanks Stan.
Slipknot - thanks Stan (xD) and Sasha.
Seether - thanks Maggie.
Alice in Chains - dunno where I found that one.

19. What was your favourite film of this year?
Hmm. Shrek 2, maybe? Don't tend to remember exactly -when- I saw particular movies, but I think that was this year.

20. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
15, went to see a movie with some friends. AvP, I think. Funny, because a month later, I would've invited a completely different set of people.

21. What political issue stirred you the most?
The continuing situation in Iraq, mebe. And the conflict in Israel, as always.

22. Who did you miss?
Nobody's dissapeared :P
I'm not much for missing what's already gone, anyway.

23. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004:
Oooh...
I need to open up to people more, I guess.
avi: Made this when I was about... oh, 13? 14? >_> (Default)
Stan talked me out of going to table tennis today, and we ended up being so much more productive elsewhere anyway :P

Having nothing better to do, I caught a bus with him to Bondi Junction, whereupon we got indian food for lunch (my lunch, his breakfast). The samosa was damn good. Then, I decided to go iPod shopping at long last, so we trekked over to Dick Smith to take a look around. Between Stan and friend David, I'd been convinced to buy a 20GB iPod rather than an iPod mini, on the basis that I'd run out of space quickly with only 4GB. It's a fair point, seeing as I already have 2.6 GB in my library at home.

When we got to Dick Smith, I also checked out the Creative alternative. The 20GB version of the Nomad, the Zen Touch, turned out to be somewhat chunkier than the iPod... but for the same price ($499) it had twice the battery life, and Dick Smith were offering a bonus remote/FM reciever with it.

Took it, got the counter, and grabbed a spindle of CD's because I was out. Turned out, the price on the shelf was wrong. It was on $448, which made Avi a happy happy customer :P

So I now have a very funky 20 GB media player, at long damn last. w00t; seeing as my previous player was an old Sony CD walkman with no mp3 capabilities. I had to tell Stan not to touch it before we got back to his place several times, and then not to damage the packaging once I did get to opening the thing.

Surprisingly, though, at least to me, I'm kinda lacking in IRL excitement. I have a nice machine, but I guess I'm too used ot always listening to music on my PC, anyway. I guess I'll probably appreciate more at school, and on camp, which is in two and a half weeks =D
