How to not fail at food

I've been having a series of discussions with people the last few days over a very interesting topic (coincidence much?)- the person is either vegan/vegetarian or wants to become so, but this is difficult because they don't know how to cook.

First of all, I'm surprised more parents don't teach their kids to cook. It's something I grew up and took  for granted.

Second of all, I've had a stroke of genius: I should teach cooking classes for vegan/vegetarian students!
It would be a perfect job. I cook daily; generally interesting meals, as well as simple quick stuff for breakfasts and whatnot, and I know how to cook using a minimal amount of time, space, and often improvised ingredients. Plus I'm cheap to feed.

... now, if only I had the requisite free time. And a kitchen with enough stoves to teach in. >_> Maybe when I'm done with Netzer; I reckon there's money in it, and it's a good cause xD

Hey, I can't cook and that hasn't stopped me from being vegan! XD Although, I am probably a lot less picky about food than most people... generally as long as it's edible and can be quickly eaten on the run or at a desk, it's good enough for me.

I was never taught how to cook because my mother hates cooking as well, and my father is clueless (all he can make is instant noodles). Cultured family XD However it would be fun to learn some things, you never know when you'll need the skills to hide out in the scullery of an inn while on the run from the local garrison. *shifty eyes*

Obviously that's the best reason to learn to cook. It happened to me once before!

... a lot of stuff is very basic, actually, and would probably just require being watched once :p and mostly it's just practise.

Ahaha. See, I'm good at any sort of cooking that mostly consists of "dump everything in and stir." So I can make excellent stir fry and omelettes (vegetarian or otherwise) (not vegan omelettes for obvious reasons) and... salad of various kinds? *shrug*

I'm never going to be vegetarian anyway because the tasty, tasty murder is all that keeps me from occasionally fainting *grumble mumble stupid anemia* and I have no idea how vegans ACTUALLY SURVIVE, seriously.
